Purpose of the role:
A qualified lawyer who will act as a knowledge support assistant forming part of the Professional Support team (2.5 days) and a research support assistant on billable matters (2.5 days).
In the research support role, you can expect to receive projects directly from the International Arbitration Knowledge Partner.
In the knowledge support role, you will help maintain projects established, and under development by the Global International Arbitration PSL to meet the Group’s knowledge needs.
The Knowledge Specialist will monitor developments in the legal and business environment in order to keep the Group up to date; maintain the practice’s weekly investment case tracker; assist with drafting the practice’s bi-annual newsletters, publications, client alerts, speeches and other thought-leadership pieces; manage the Group’s collection of relevant noteworthy samples, precedents and research materials (including arbitration clauses and arbitrator reports); monitor and ensure the International Arbitration GlobalNet page remains up-to-date; assist with resource queries; help coordinate and prepare the content for Group and client training; assist with the implementation of an arbitrator reporting system and provide other support as needed.
The Knowledge Assistant will spend the remaining 50% of the week assisting the Group with research based work on billable matters, including with the preparation of comprehensive memoranda presenting their research findings.
Responsibilties:
Current Awareness, Know-how and Thought Leadership
- Monitor and keep the Group informed about important developments in relevant law or business environment;
- Monitor and keep the Global IA PSL informed about key developments affecting the firm’s key clients and work with her to plan client alerts that are highly relevant;
- Help prepare and co-ordinate bi-annual newsletters for the Group’s clients (including maintaining a weekly investment case tracker for that purpose);
- Support partners in the Group on all publications, articles, client alerts, speeches and other thought leadership initiatives;
- Work with the Marketing Department to assist with IA legal directory submissions;
- Work with the librarians and Global IA PSL in relation to resource related matters.
- Organizing and Sharing, Precedent Clauses and Document Collections
- Maintain, via the Firm’s “Global Knowledge Bank (GKB)” practice-related knowledge resources, which include in particular precedent arbitration clauses, noteworthy samples for documents used in arbitrations, legal memos, arbitrator due diligence reports, training and seminar materials and other materials useful to the Group;
- Work with Group members to create and capture knowledge content and encourage the sharing of information and knowledge generally;
- Help the Knowledge Management Department generally to tailor the Firm’s knowledge resources to meet the needs of the Group.
Lawyer Training and Technical Expertise
- Help co-ordinate and prepare training and client training;
- Assist Group members to access and effectively search for knowledge resources on GKB, GlobalNet and other internal sources;
- Provide direct support to individual practitioners to assist them with locating practice-related external precedent materials and knowledge resources.
Practice Group Pages on GlobalNet
- Ensure the Group’s GlobalNet site remains up-to-date.
People and Relationship Information
- Assist the Global IA PSL with the renewal of Jus Mundi, working with internal management as needed;
- Assist the Global IA PSL in implementing an effective system for the monitoring and reporting of arbitrators (including for diversity tracking and conflict-related purposes);
- Work closely with the Group to encourage them to use the arbitrator due diligence template report and capture completed reports for storage on GKB.
Other
- Participate in regular meetings of the Professional Support function and Knowledge Management Department and liaise with other PSLs to facilitate the sharing of best practice and knowledge;
- Provide other knowledge support to the Group as may be assigned by the head of the Group, the Knowledge Partner, Head of Knowledge Management (Europe) or the Global Director of Knowledge Management.
