Qualifications:
- At least five years’ experience in a legal or financial services firm in a DE&I, Social Impact, Business Development, Marketing or Relationship Management role.
- Deep experience of operating effectively and successfully leading DE&I change in a large, complex, and matrixed global organisations within Asia Pacific
- Experience of social impact work as a volunteer or co-ordinator.
- Strong track record of experience in collaborating with and presenting to internal and external partners.
- Interest in volunteer work and/or social welfare law and current affairs.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills to drive insights and key messages for different audiences.
- Lawyer qualified in Singapore with current practising certificate and at least five years’ post qualification experience (or equivalent).
- Direct legal experience advising and acting for clients.
Responsibilities:
APAC DE&I
- Work closely with APAC HR to develop and deliver an APAC DE&I strategy that seeks to deliver on the firm’s global objectives while addressing regional challenges and nuances.
- Work with stakeholders to develop programmes that ensure new and current employees of all backgrounds feel welcomed by fostering a diverse working environment, facilitating equitable outcomes for staff, and implementing a culture of inclusivity:
- identify areas of opportunity, develop recommended courses of action, and drive implementation of recommendations within the APAC region; and
- ensure consistent measurement of overall metrics for reporting purposes.
- Ensure the regional DE&I strategy is integrated and operationalised into A&O’s key processes by embedding principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in general decision making, and influencing people management practices and everyday thinking and interactions.
- Monitor progress and success of the various APAC DE&I projects and initiatives.
- Track diversity metrics providing regular updates to senior stakeholders within the APAC region highlighting progress and where action must be taken.
- Prepare and deliver DE&I presentations and communications as appropriate for internal and external audiences, including at DE&I conferences.
- Participate in industry DE&I forums; maintain and develop external relationships with diversity-related organisations, thought leaders and vendors.
- Oversee diversity-related external surveys across APAC, including external diversity benchmarking surveys.
- Monitor external DE&I best practices and make recommendations for new initiatives to ensure that A&O is a leader in the DE&I space in APAC.
- Coach the APAC DE&I partner champions to represent A&O within their local community or industry partners, peers, and clients.
- Lead the reviews of DE&I policies for the purpose of providing feedback to policy owners.
Singapore Social Impact
- Responsible for the development and delivery of a market leading Social Impact programme in Singapore to respond to demand from clients, fee earners and Business Teams and potential recruits, including working closely with Marketing and Client Relationship Managers on client collaborations in support of our Social Impact partners.
- Connecting Singapore with other offices across A&O’s international network to collaborate on regional and global pro bono matters.
- Developing a robust system to track and evaluate matters originating in Singapore for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Delivering timely reports on Singapore Social Impact matters to include volunteer time accrued and impact of the work undertaken.
- Representing A&O’s Singapore pro bono legal practice at external events, including presenting at conferences and seminars.
- Managing delivery of strategic and market leading Social Impact work with A&O staff and commercial clients, civil society clients, A&O’s global charity partner and pro bono brokers to ensure that all Social Impact work in Singapore is delivered to a high standard.
- Proactively identifying opportunities for fee-earners to undertake pro bono work across all groups and at all levels of experience, including managing risk, conflicts and relationships.
- Proactively identifying opportunities for all members of the Singapore office (fee earners and non-fee earners) to undertake social impact work, including managing risk, conflicts and relationships.
- Being the primary contact in Singapore for our global charity partner on Social Impact work and pro bono / social impact opportunities to maximise the success and impact of the global charity partnership.
Communication and marketing
- Raise the profile of A&O’s APAC DE&I and Singapore Social Impact groups internally and externally, to increase awareness, impact and participation.
- Reviewing and drafting written communications on A&O’s APAC DE&I and Singapore Social Impact work when needed, including intranet articles and A&O.com, the firm’s annual reviews, updates on efforts, celebratory communications; ensuring the communications reflect firm values and are aligned with firm priorities.
- Responsibility for identifying appropriate DE&I and Social Impact award programmes and drafting award applications to promote the achievements of individual A&O staff and volunteers and the wider groups.
